East Harriet Homes for Sale
Welcome to the East Harriet Neighborhood of Minneapolis
Located in Southwest Minneapolis, East Harriet is home to around 3,500 residents and offers an incredible location by Lake Harriet, a picturesque setting, and close proximity to the culture, shopping, and dining in both Uptown and Downtown.
East Harriet is bordered on the west by Lake Harriet and by Lyndale Avenue to the east and lies between 36th Street and 46th Street to the north and south. Because it’s just a few blocks to Interstate 35 and Hennepin Avnue, commuting is easy, whether you work in Downtown or an outlying area. Like adjacent neighborhoods like CARAG and King Field, East Harriet homes for sale are sought after and tend to sell quickly.
History of East Harriet
In 1885, Minneapolis’s border stopped at 38th Street, but as it expanded in 1887 to 54th Street new neighborhoods grew from farm land. East Harriet was one of these neighborhoods, and Colonel William S. King (who is thought to not have been an actual colonel, but instead, it was just a nickname) played a role in its design. While the neighborhood of King Field was named for him, East Harriet was named simply after the lake that lays to the west.
Like other surrounding neighborhoods, East Harriet flourished between 1900 and 1920, which is when many of the homes were built. Today, most homes in the area feature Art Deco, Arts & Crafts, and Craftsman details.
