Tangletown Neighborhood Guide for Southwest Minneapolis

Located in southwest Minneapolis, Tangletown is a distinctive neighborhood that has an interesting past.

For instance, this community was originally known as Fuller until 1996, which is when its name was changed to its present-day version.

Fuller was originally named after its elementary school, which was in turn named for Margaret Fuller. Fuller was an American feminist, essayist, journalist and educator during the latter half of the 17th century.

In 1977, the school was torn down and the land converted into Fuller Park. Today, that small park offers many activities for residents to enjoy and even features a flower garden.

The community’s modern name comes from the fact that the neighborhood has many winding streets that don’t conform to the regular street grid pattern of South Minneapolis.

Today, residents generally define this neighborhood as being bound by 46th Street to the north, Interstate 35W to the east, Diamond Lake Road to the south, and Lyndale Avenue South to the west.

For instance, the community hosts an annual 4th of July event, which always attracts the crowds.

The community is also home to its own high school: Washburn High School.

Another unique feature of this community is that the Minnehaha Creek traverses the southern part of the neighborhood.
